Canon XL2 Camcorder Kit (20X Room Lens Included)

Noticing the XL1's popularity amongst professionals, the Canon XL2 is designed with the professional in mind. Reworked from the CCD up, this camcorder is not so much a refined update as it is a totally new camera that has the same feel as its predecessor. The 20X video lens is a thing of sheer beauty and is, of course, interchangeable with other lenses. The ND filter swings easily into position, and the stabiliser and auto focus controls are solid and conveniently placed. The lens also incorporates a function which acts as an automatic focus pull or zoom control that stores preset positions for instant recall.

A new hybrid LCD/viewfinder is a welcome addition. Although at 2" it isn't too large, its 200K pixels mean that it is sharp and clear. In terms of audio perks, the XL2 features a novel use for the 12-bit audio mode of the DV format. Rather than using just four possible channels as a dubbing tool, with an adapter, this camera actually allows connection of four microphones at once.

Work that previously was limited to post-production can be simply and effectively accomplished in the field, and an Open Architecture philosophy, delivers performance found only in much more expensive video cameras. With additional features like 3X 1/3' 800k progressive scan CCDs and full manual control over all image settings, the XL2 represents the last word in flexible, broadcast quality mini DV.
